Wexford maintain unbeaten start
Wexford Youths continued their unbeaten start to the season, with a 3-0 win over Treaty United at Ferrycarrig Park this afternoon.
Goals from Kylie Murphy and Ellen Molloy were enough to give the Youths all three points, as they stake their claim for a league title charge early on.
Treaty to their credit looked impressive with Olivia Gibson causing issues up front for them, while Michaela Mitchell was doing the heroics in the Treaty net, while Shannon Parbat was a giant in defence.
The hosts had the better share of possession early on, but the Treaty defence had been solid to keep the hosts at bay, Shannon Parbat showing her quality early on at the heart of the Shannonsiders defence.
Ellen Molloy had the first clear chance at goal for Wexford after 21 minutes, she hit a free kick just outside the area, but the shot was too high and went over the bar. She had another chance minutes later but the ball took a bobble and scuffed the surface and went wide of the Treaty goal.
Olivia Gibson had the first major chance for the visitors after the 25 minute mark, she hit a strike against the run of play from distance, the effort just going wide of the mark but would have been a clip for the highlight reel, if it found the back of the net.
Wexford managed to get their opening goal after 28 minutes after a well-worked counter attack , they looked lively and Molloy again caused trouble in the area, skipping past the sliding challenges before crossing for Kylie Murphy to head home from inside the six yard box.
Youths keeper Maeve Williams had to be called into action twice late in the opening half, the first to deny Gibson from a 1v1, before stopping the follow-up chance by Emily O’Halloran to clear the danger. She then got down well minutes later to save another Gibson effort, as they were 1-0 ahead at the interval.
Michaela Mitchell was called into action minutes after the restart, she did well to save another Molloy shot at goal with a full stretch save to keep the score at 1-0. Wexford started similarly to the opening half, looking dangerous and full of attacking threat.
Mitchell came to the rescue again Teegan Lynch this time with an effort at goal, but the Treaty goalkeeper alert to save the effort at her goal.
Molloy made it 2-0 before the hour mark, another attack into the area saw Molloy find space inside the box, before hitting the back of the net with a lovely strike.
The game remained tight as Treaty threatened to try and find the back of the net, but in the end Murphy found the net with a second goal in the 85th minute, completing their emphatic home performance.
