Match Report

Strong first half stands to Peas in Galway

Peamount United took all three points after a brilliant first half performance against Galway WFC.

The visitors were 3-0 up at half-time - Stephanie Roche, Chloe Maloney and Sadhbh Doyle with the goals for the visitors.

Roche got her second of the match with a wonderful 30-yard strike to seal the points as the Peas finish 4-0 winners after a disappointing Galway performance.

On a wet and windy night in Eamonn Deacy Park it took both sides a while to get into the game sluggish opening ten minutes with not much in terms of chances.

This was quickly changed by a goal from a set piece from Stephanie Roche tapped home the ball from point blank after a brilliant header from Chloe Moloney rattled the crossbar and fell onto the goal line 1-0.

Their second goal came soon after some good build up play led to a cross into the box Galway failed to deal with it and Roche squared the ball to Sadhbh Doyle who rifled it past Leah Hayes Cohen from close range.

The home side reacted well to going two goals down and started creating their own chances.

Some good play down the left side and a great cross had Niamh Reid Burke in trouble,  she dropped the ball in her own six yard box and the resulting shot was well blocked.

The Peas started getting their corner count up and eventually they converted 43 minutes on the clock Roach whipped the ball in under the crossbar and Maloney passed it home both players claiming the goal but all that matters is they went in at the break 3-0 up.

The Connacht side started the half the better, a free early on delivered by Shauna Brennan was met by Lynsey McKey and her shot hit the crossbar from 11 yards out.

Galway struggled in the second half with ball retention; the wet pitch and wind conditions could be to blame for this but they really struggled progressing the ball forwards in the second half.

Peamount kept themselves solid at the back forcing Galway into errors and then quick counter attacks was their main attacking output.

They were a constant threat from set pieces.

Stephanie Roche got the goal of the match late on. In the 85th minute her effort from 30 yards out went over the Galway keepers head completing a great Peamount performance.
