Match Report

10-man Drogheda deliver big against Finn Harps

10-men Drogheda United earned a huge 3-1 win over Finn Harps tonight at Head in the Game Park.

Finn Harps took the lead straight into the second-half through a Conor Tourish header on 47 minutes. Drogheda equalised through sub Evan Weir on 68 minutes despite Sean Roughan being sent off for a second yellow just before.

Adam Foley snatched the goal to put them ahead in stoppage time and Darragh Nugent made it 3-1 after 95 minutes

This game brought a new meaning to the term game two halves as a dull first periods transpired into a second one that had it all. At the end of events though it’s Drogheda who have pulled off a spirited comeback to go six points clear of the drop zone.

Harps were the better of the sides in the quiet first half and had the only real chances through attempts from Bastien Hery and Ryan Rainey. The Drogs were poor and played just like a team who had lost their last four, timid and overly safe.

The second half burst into life when Conor Tourish headed in the opener for the Ballybofey outfit from a corner. The hosts responded with intensity though as if they had only then been enlightened to the importance of the game.

Sean Roughan was sent off just past the hour for a controversial second yellow but this didn’t seem to effect the Drogs and a few minutes later substitute Evan Weir slotted home as James Clarke pulled the ball back from the byline.

The game was even for the remainder with scrappy play and late challenges at the fore. Right into stoppage time Adam Foley who was returning from injury tapped home a brilliant Ryan Brennan cross to win the game.

An altercation followed where Hery kicked out at Brennan was giving marching orders. Then on 95 minutes Darragh Nugent wrapped it up with a close range volley to finish things 3-1
