10-man Drogheda deliver big against Finn Harps
10-men Drogheda United earned a huge 3-1 win over Finn Harps tonight at Head in the Game Park.
Finn Harps took the lead straight into the second-half through a Conor Tourish header on 47 minutes. Drogheda equalised through sub Evan Weir on 68 minutes despite Sean Roughan being sent off for a second yellow just before.
Adam Foley snatched the goal to put them ahead in stoppage time and Darragh Nugent made it 3-1 after 95 minutes
This game brought a new meaning to the term game two halves as a dull first periods transpired into a second one that had it all. At the end of events though it’s Drogheda who have pulled off a spirited comeback to go six points clear of the drop zone.
Harps were the better of the sides in the quiet first half and had the only real chances through attempts from Bastien Hery and Ryan Rainey. The Drogs were poor and played just like a team who had lost their last four, timid and overly safe.
The second half burst into life when Conor Tourish headed in the opener for the Ballybofey outfit from a corner. The hosts responded with intensity though as if they had only then been enlightened to the importance of the game.
Sean Roughan was sent off just past the hour for a controversial second yellow but this didn’t seem to effect the Drogs and a few minutes later substitute Evan Weir slotted home as James Clarke pulled the ball back from the byline.
The game was even for the remainder with scrappy play and late challenges at the fore. Right into stoppage time Adam Foley who was returning from injury tapped home a brilliant Ryan Brennan cross to win the game.
An altercation followed where Hery kicked out at Brennan was giving marching orders. Then on 95 minutes Darragh Nugent wrapped it up with a close range volley to finish things 3-1

Adam Foley has come on for Lyons and immediately he troubled Harps with a low ball into the box but McGinley held on. Five left in this very intense affair
McNamee comes off injured and Jesse Devers replaces the captain for Harps
Just over 10 left here and it could go either way despite the hosts being down a man. Plenty of late challenges coming in
Evan Weir scores just after replacing Dayle Rooney and equalises for 10 men Drogheda
Huge chance for Filip Mihaljevic from close range but a brilliant stop from Long keeps it out

Dream start to the half for Finn Harps as Tourish scores from a corner straight away
Back underway here. Ryan Brennan replaces Andrew Quinn and Kevin Doherty reshapes Drogheda a bit
Half-time here and it can be described as a dull 0-0 at the interval
A George Poynton free-kick fizzes into the box but McGinley clutches it. The Louth side looking slightly better approaching the break
Some good play by the Drogs sees Chris Lyons slipped through and he chips Mark McGinley to score but unfortunately he is a yard or two offside
Best chance of the game goes to Rainey as the ball falls to him on the edge but his effort goes safely into the hands of Sam Long
Gary Deegan booked for an altercation with Rainey
Surprisingly its Ollie Horgan's men playing on the front foot in this first-half and its been the hosts who are looking to counter. Regardless the two sides continue to struggle to break each other down
This one still yet to spark into life. The visitors have been slightly better and have won a number of free-kicks in dangerous positions but have hit the wall every time
Dane Massey receiving treatment
The Donegal team with a good spell there. Not really threatening, but pushing high up the pitch to a point where Drogheda struggled to get out for a few minutes
First shot of the game goes to the away side. Bastien Hery's volley blazes over after Ryan Rainey's long throw broke back to him
Still no chances of note and play is being broken up frequently in the middle
A deep ball into the box seems to be Harps' early intention. Conor Tourish put one in there but Andrew Quinn dealt with it
A slow tempo early on and both sides getting a feel for the ball. The hosts playing in their traditional Claret and Blue while the visitors are in all green
And we're off at Head in the Game Park
Harps team news: Bastien Hery and Ryan Connolly return to the starting team. Barry McNamee is the skipper while new signing Yoho Mahdy settles for the bench
Drogheda team news: Adam Foley returns to the match day squad having been injured but Darragh Markey is still out with his Metatarsal problem. Chris Lyons is back in the starting 11 however Dean Williams is out with a knock
Three points is all that separates these sides who are placed 8th and 9th respectively so a very important win up for grabs here in Louth. Drogheda have lost their last four and Harps are on the back of what could be detrimental loss to UCD last week
