Clinical Pat’s deliver win in Finn Park
St. Patrick’s Athletic produced a clinical display to beat Finn Harps 2-0 in Ballybofey tonight.
Goals from Jack Scott and Eoin Doyle gave the Inchicore men two wins in as many games in what was a very competitive game in Finn Park.
Chances proved little to come by for both teams in the first half. With all of St. Patrick’s possession, they failed to create anything clear cut. The home side came closest to scoring when the ball broke to David Webster from a corner on the edge of the box but, the defenders volley cannoned off the post. Yoyo Mahdy and Filip Mihaljević also had half chances for the home side although, both headers came to nothing.
The second half began in a much livelier fashion with both sides upping the tempo. The home side had a golden chance when Mihaljević went through yet, goalkeeper Joseph Anang came out and made himself big whilst doing well to deny the Harps striker.
The game changed in the 66th minute when Ian Bermingham picked up the ball and played two one-two’s with Adam O’Reilly and then Eoin Doyle, his shot was saved onto the post but rolled across the face of the goal and there was Jack Scott to tap it in.
Finn Harps responded well but couldn’t capitalise and they were punished again in the 77th minute. Chris Forrester provided a great free kick which fell to Eoin Doyle who guided his header fantastically in off the far post and into the net.
St. Pat’s went close again when Eoin Doyle did very well to put Forrester through but, the midfielder dragged his shot wide. The home side did create half chances but, Anang and the Saints defence stood strong to earn their third clean sheet of the season.
For Finn Harps, it is a short trip down to their neighbours for a big fixture against Sligo Rovers on Monday night. As for St. Patrick’s Athletic, it’s back to Inchicore where they take on UCD at Richmond Park.

Full-time here at Finn Park sees the visitors run out 2-0 winners. A gutsy performance from the away side who took their chances.
Ian Bermingham goes into the book for a foul on Mihaljević. Minutes before, Abankwah does very well defensively to clear up a potential dangerous situation for the hosts.
Chris Forrester nearly chips McGinley from the corner off the box. McGinley does well to tip it over the bar. The resulting corner is caught by McGinley.
Mark Doyle and Eoin Doyle are replaced by Jason McClelland and Ronan Coughlan for the away side.
Breslin pinches the ball outside the Harps box but his cross fizzes across the penalty area and cannot be met by an oncoming player. A massive chance for the away side.
More changes for both sides as Jesse Devers replaces Mahdy. For the visitors, Abankwah replaces goal scorer Scott
Ryan Connolly is booked for a foul on Owolabi inside the Harps half. He has now been booked in every game so far this season.
A second goal for the away side. Chris Forrester delivers an inch perfect free kick onto the head of Eoin Doyle who does unbelievably well to header it into the far corner off the post. 0-2.
Finn Harps coming closer to an equaliser. Rainey has a header that looks as if it is heading into the far corner but the ball hits off Mihaljević and bobbles out for a goal kick.
A second substitute for the home side. Mark Timlin comes on to replace N'Zeyi.
End-to-end since the goal. Mahdy goes close with an effort but Anang smoothers it. Pat's go down the other end and Chris Forrester has a chance put on a plate for him by Eoin Doyle but he drags his shot wide. A massive chance missed
Changes for both sides. McWoods comes on for Hery whilst Owolabi replaces Burns for the visitors
Goal for the away side. Bermingham collects the ball who plays a one-two with O'Reilly, then plays a second one-two with Eoin Doyle and his shot is saved onto the post where it rolls across the face of the goal and Jack Scott the opposite full back is there to tap it in. 0-1.
Eoin Doyle wins a free kick for the visitors in a dangerous area. O'Reilly delivers it yet it is a disappointing delivery and is cleared by the first man. Suddenly, the ball breaks to Mihaljević who races into the St. Pat's penalty area but Anang comes out, spreads himself and does well to save. Mihaljević is then deemed to have fouled Grivosti and the chance goes.
Lively restart from both teams. The game being played at a higher tempo. Pat's win a corner and play it short, Bermingham delivers it but again, it is just too far ahead of the on rushing Redmond and McGinley collects.
Burns picks up the ball 30 yards from goal. He drives the ball into the corner of the box but his cross is inches too far ahead of Eoin Doyle who is arriving at the back post. Harps go up the other end and Mahdy is sent through however, his strike is tame and is easily collected by Anang.
Harps get us underway for the second half.
Half-time at Finn Park and it is 0-0. A game of few chances but Finn Harps have gone closest through David Webster.
Eoin Doyle almost latches onto a Ian Bermingham long ball but Ethan Boyle pokes the ball out for a corner. Burns takes the resulting corner but it comes to nothing.
More better play from the hosts. Ethan Boyle delivers from the wide right but Mihaljević can't connect well enough with his header and Anang gathers. Burns fouls Carrillo who is struggling to get any joy against the full back.
N'Zeyi is the first to go into the referee's book for a foul on Eoin Doyle.
All St. Pat's. Forrester collects the ball 30 yards out and he looks for Breslin which is misjudged by Finn Harps in the box, Breslin sets Mark Doyle who looks for Eoin Doyle but McGinley punches the ball away. Harps go up the other end and win a corner. The ball falls to David Webster at the edge of the box but his half volley cannons off the far post.
Nothing really to report on. O'Reilly breaks from midfield and he slips through Eoin Doyle but, the striker is flagged for offside.
Forrester and O'Reilly looking to get on the ball for the away side. O'Reilly collects the ball in the Finn Harps half and looks for Forrester who is making a run from midfield but, the ball is marshalled out of play.
N'Zeyi is being treated for a head knock and is requiring treatment on the sideline. The visitors are looking to settle themselves into the game and retain possession.
Finn Harps win a corner early on and the resulting set piece is headed over by Yoyo Mahdy. The home side looking to stamp their authority on the game.
Underway here in Ballybofey. The home side playing from right to left.
Good evening and welcome to Finn Park for tonight's SSE Airtricity Premier Division game between Finn Harps and St. Patrick's Athletic. No changes for the hosts as Mihaljević, Rainey, and McNamee overcome fitness doubts to start, whilst it's just the one change for the visitors which sees captain Ian Bermingham make his first start of the season in place of Billy King in a slight formation adjustment.
