Wexford beat Bray Wanderers in an entertaining southeast derby
A 92nd-minute Len O'Sullivan strike sealed a 4-2 win for Wexford over Bray at Ferrycarrig Park this evening in the LOI First Division.
The home side set off at blistering pace and early goals from Conor Davis and Aaron Dobbs saw them up 2-0 by the 13th minute as Bray struggled to cope with their hosts' pace.
Wanderers worked their way back into proceedings with a Hugh Douglas header just after an hour but Wexford did not relent and Jack Doherty scored from close range in the 73rd minute on his return to the club.
Bray netted again late on through Evan Harte to instill some late drama but O'Sullivan's goal put the game to bed.
The positive result for Ian Ryan's side keeps them in the hunt for the top promotion play-off place after Treaty United were unable to beat Galway in Limerick.
A blistering start saw Wexford come close to scoring in the game's opening minute when Thomas Considine shot at goal after a powerful run forward, but he missed the target as he was ushered wide by his marker.
Less than 60 seconds later, the Slaney men would have their first goal after another pacey attack saw Conor Davis net from close-range.
Bray also looked dangerous going forward after conceding but their defending was less than convincing.
Wexford cut them open again in the 12th minute to see striker Aaron Dobbs get the home team's second goal.
More chances came for the locals as the half wore on, with Dobbs almost getting on the end of a cutting Davis cross in front of goal in the 25th minute.
Before half-time, Wanderers 'keeper Stephen McGuinness had to backpedal quickly to prevent a fantastic long-range Eoin Farrell lob from entering goal while Dobbs hit over with a half-volley soon after.
Bray would create more chances in the second-half, and really began to put pressure on their hosts as the clock edged toward the hour mark.
Hugh Douglas put his side back in contention when he headed in from a Keith Dalton cross though Wexford did not sit back after that concession.
They continued to rely on the break and a low cross from Evan Wells found Doherty with less than 20 minutes remaining to see Wexford return to their two goal lead.
Wanderer's Harte struck his first senior goal on 85 minutes to inject some late excitement into the game but Wexford evaded the visitor's push and returned fire through O'Sullivan from yet another rapid break.
