Match Preview: Longford Town v Finn Harps

After both suffered defeats at the weekend, Longford Town and Finn Harps will be keen to get back to winning ways at Bishopsgate this evening at 7.45.

Harps lost the North-West Derby one-nil away to Sligo Rovers, as a Johnny Kenny goal on 51 minutes handed the Donegal side their first loss of the season.

Town came within 60 seconds of securing a draw away at Champions Shamrock Rovers, only for Sean Gannon to pop up with a deflected last gasp winner to break Longford hearts.

Harps have ten points from their five games which leaves them just a point behind triple joint leaders, Sligo Rovers, St. Pats, and Shamrock Rovers who all have 11 points.

Longford Town have four points from their five games and will be looking to stop a three-game losing streak this evening. The Town have Waterford, Dundalk, and Derry City below them in the standings.

The visitors will have to watch Towns’ stand-out player Dylan Grimes, while Longford will hope to curb the goal scoring exploits of Adam Foley who is currently leading the scoring chart in the top-flight with four goals.

Finn Harps possess plenty of quality and experience, with Dave Webster, Shane McEleney, and Barry McNamee prominent figures, while apart from Grimes, Longford Town will be looking to the likes of Aaron O’Driscoll, Rob Manley, captain Dean Zambra (if fit) and Aodh Dervin to get the team back to winning ways.

The last meeting between these clubs was in February last year in a pre-season friendly at Bishopsgate, which Longford won 2-1. Aaron McNally and the departed Niall Barnes were on the score sheet for the Town, while Kosovar Sadiki, who should feature this evening, scored the consolation goal for Harps.

Longford have suffered several injuries already this season. Dean Byrne, Callum Warfield, Rob Manley, Dean Zambra and Aaron McNally have all had to sit games out.

For today’s game, it is expected that apart from Rob Manley who has played in the last two matches, the rest of those named above will not be fit for selection.

For Harps, Ryan Connolly is out through injury, while Mark Timlin and Conor Barry are rated doubtful. Adam Foley who was carrying a knock into the Sligo game was replaced after just 55 minutes of that contest, and manager Ollie Horgan will be hoping that the leagues’ top scorer will be fit to take on the Town.
