Roundup: AIL – Women’s Division

Blackrock College maintained their 100% start to the Top Four Women’s All Ireland League with a bonus point victory over Railway Union, who they will play again in the Top 4 final next week.

Elsewhere, Old Belvedere claimed their first win of the campaign after defeating UL Bohemian. In the conference competition, Galwegians claimed a huge victory over Ballincollig while there were also wins for Suttonians and Cooke.

Blackrock College 39-7 Railway Union, Saturday 19th February, Stradbrook.

Natasja Behan came off the bench to score two tries in Blackrock’s bonus point win over second placed Railway Union. Rock also found tries through Michelle Claffey, Dorothy Wall, Alison Coleman and Jackie Shiels. The Stradbrook outfit now sit nine points clear at the summit of the table ahead of next week’s final.

Old Belvedere 22-12 UL Bohemian, Saturday 19th February, Ollie Campbell Park.

Belvo claimed their first win of the season with a victory over UL Bohemian thanks to tries from Sene Naoupu, Elise O’Byrne White and two from Aine Donnelly. Belvo were 17 points up at the break in an impressive showing before next week’s 3rd/4th place play off between the sides. UL Bohemian will need to be at their best in the clash and try to re-find the form that they showed before Christmas if they’re to emerge victorious.

Galwegians 50-5 Ballincollig, Saturday 19th February, Crowley Park.

Wegians booked their place in the Conference Competition in outstanding fashion today, with a heavy, bonus point win over Ballincollig. Megan Walsh and Mairead Coyne claimed hat tricks during the game along with further tries from Sarah O’Connell and Grace Browne Moran. Collig’s only points of the disappointing loss came through Denise Redmond. The Cork side play Wicklow in the 3rd/4th place play off next week in Limerick.

Malone 3-31 Cooke, Saturday 19th February, Gibson Park.

Malone remain without a single win since the start of the Conference Competition and will have it all to do if they’re to beat Cooke next week in the 9th/10th play off. Cooke’s tries came courtesy of Helen McGhee, Lucy Thompson, Lise Van Staden and Beth Cregan. It’s a first win since before Christmas for Cooke who will be confident ahead of next week’s game between the two bottom sides.

Wicklow 15-20 Suttonians, Saturday 19th February, Ashtown Lane.

Wicklow came close but not close enough to ebating the conference leaders at Ashtown Lane today. The season debutants found tries through Kathy Byrne and Erin McConnell but tries for Suttonians from Lena Kibler ,Lauren Farrell McCabe , Kate Farrell McCabe and Emily McKeown sealed the win for the Dublin side. Suttonians now face Galwegians in the conference final next week while Wicklow travel to UL Arena to play Ballincollg.
