Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 2B

The top 4 has been decided in Division 2B of the Energia All Ireland League with Greystones, Belfast Harlequins, Blackrock College and Galway Corinthians going into the semi finals.

Galway Corinthians 31-24 Blackrock College, Corinthian Park.

Corinthians booked their place in the top-four after a bonus point victory over promotion rivals Blackrock College. The Connacht outfit knew that nothing other than a win would guarantee safety prior to the game with Wanderers just narrowly behind them in the standings.

Dungannon 7-19 Greystones, Stevenson Park.

Greystones finished their AIL campaign at the summit of the table after victory away to Dungannon this afternoon. Paul Lennon’s side now have home advantage ahead of their semi final on the 23rd of April. The Wicklow side will be eager to continue their form in a push for promotion to division 2A.

Wanderers 46-10 Sligo, Merrion Road.

The Chaps’ season is now over despite a bonus point win at home to Sligo. Wanderers knew that a win was vital in their quest for a spot in the top 4 but after Corinthians’ victory, it left the Merrion Road outfit in fifth place. Wanderers showed their class in abundance over the season but after losing many games in the dying moments, promotion to 2A proved to be too much.

Belfast Harlequins 45-33 Malahide, Deramore Park.

Belfast Harlequins finish the season in second place after their win over Malahide. Quins’ second place finish now guarantees a home semi final for the Ulster side after showing that they have what It takes throughout the season. Malahide ended their season in fine form despite two defeats in their final games and will be hopeful that they can rekindle the form of late when the season re-starts in September.

Ballina 14-20 Galwegians, Heffernan Park.

It was a rehearsal for the relegation play off this afternoon in Mayo and Galwegians emerged victorious for just the third time all season. Wegians know that they must win again when the sides meet in a fortnight’s time, but today’s win will do Galwegians’ confidence, the world of good.
