Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 1A

Round 14 of the AIL Division 1A brought a number of thrills as Terenure College closed in on Lansdowne in second place.

Clontarf stretched their lead at the top of the table after defeating second placed Lansdowne, and Young Munster halted a losing skid after defeating UCC.

Lansdowne 14-23 Clontarf, Aviva Stadium

Tries from Cian O’Donoghue, Matt D’Arcy and Dylan Donnealy proved to be the difference as Clontarf defeated Lansdowne 14-23 at Aviva Stadium.

As a result of the win, Clontarf have stretched their lead over Lansdowne to nine points at the top of Division 1A. 

Young Munster 12-7 UCC, Tom Clifford Park

Young Munster halted a two game losing skid as they edged UCC 12-7 at Tom Clifford Park.

The hosts took a comfortable 12-0 lead into the break after tries from Alan Kennedy and Adam Maher, but UCC briefly threatened a comeback as Cian Bohane scored a converted try. However, that proved to be as a close as the visitors got as Young Munster sealed a narrow win. 

Terenure College 36-15 Dublin University, Lakelands

Two tries from Colm de Buitléar powered Terenure College to a dominant 36-15 win over Dublin University at Lakelands.

The hosts took a slender 21-15 lead into the break, but turned on the jets to score 15 unanswered points in the second half to wrap up their 10th straight victory, and move to just one point behind Lansdowne. 

Cork Constitution 31-0 Garryowen, Temple Hill

16 points from Aidan Moynihan proved instrumental as Cork Constitution cruised to a dominant 31-0 win over Garryowen. 

It was a one-sided contest from the outset as the hosts powered into an unassailable 24-0 lead at the break, and claimed a deserved bonus point try as Jack Crowley scored in the second half.

Ballynahinch​ 19-27 UCD, Ballymacarn Park 

12 points from the boot of Chris Cosgrave proved decisive as UCD picked up a 19-27 win away at Ballynahinch. 

The visitors raced into a 0-20 lead at the break before the visitors threatened a fightback as they drew to within 8 points before Richard Fahy scored for UCD to seal the victory.
