Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 1A

Round 17 of the Energia All-Ireland Division 1A brought a lot of tries and several high-scoring fixtures.

The match of the round saw Terenure College square off with second placed Lansdowne at Aviva Stadium. Needless to say the match didn’t disappoint. 

Lansdowne 30-42 Terenure College, Aviva Stadium

Colm de Buitléar scored twice as Terenure College produced a breaktaking performance to defeat Lansdowne 30-42 at Aviva Stadium. 

Terenure College took a slender 13-22 lead into halftime, after three first half tries. However, the visitors turned it on in the second period, as they scored 20 points to claim a strong win away from home.

As a result of the win, Terenure College move into second place in the table ahead of Lansdowne, who continue an end of the season skid.

Clontarf 40-14 Ballynahinch, Castle Avenue

Clontarf scored six tries as they hammered Ballynahinch 40-14 at Castle Avenue.

It was the Hawkshaw show in Dublin as the three Hawkshaw brothers – David, Daniel and Jimmy crossing the whitewash at Castle Avenue. The brothers accounted for a combined 30 points on Saturday afternoon in what was a dominant outing.

The hosts showed their class throughout as they raced into a 26-0 lead, and the result was never in doubt as they eased to win number 16 on the season.

Young Munster 19-27 Cork Constitution, Tom Clifford Park

Tries from Billy Crowley, Niall Kenneally and Max Abbott powered Cork Constitution to a 27-19 win against Young Munster at Tom Clifford Park.

The game was on a knife edge throughout, and was left firmly poised after Kenneally’s try made it 19-20 to the visitors.

However, all hope soon evaporated for Young Munster as Abbott crashed over for the visitors to make it an eight point win for Cork Constitution.

Dublin University 34-27 UCD, College Park

Two tries from Mark Nicholson proved crucial as Dublin University picked up a stunning 34-27 win against UCD at College Park.

Seven tries were scored at College Park as the two teams played some thrilling rugby, as Dublin University took a slender 17-13 lead into the break. 

UCD fought valiantly in the second half as tries from Paddy Patterson and Jack Ringrose reduced the deficit to seven points, but Dublin University held on to claim a strong win at home. 

UCC 14-15 Garryowen, The Mardyke

A late penalty from Tony Butler earned Garryowen a slender 14-15 win at UCC in Division 1A.

The win sees Garryowen return to winning ways, after a disappointing 33-27 loss to UCC last weekend.
