Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 1B

Round 16 of the Energia All-Ireland Division 1B gets underway on Saturday afternoon, as Naas host Highfield at Forenaughts.

Naas vs Highfield, Forenaughts

The biggest clash of the weekend will see Naas welcome second placed Highfield to Forenaughts.

Just seven points separates second from fourth as Naas look to close in on the visitors, who are nervously looking over their shoulder at red hot Shannon.

The two teams played out a one-sided game back in October, as Highfield overpowered Naas in a 38-3 victory at Woodleigh Park in the reverse fixture.

St Mary’s College vs Banbridge. Templeville Road

St Mary’s College will look to return to winning ways as they square off with Banbridge at Templeville Road.

The hosts have endured a losing skid as of late, having failed to register a win since January. St Mary’s College enter the weekend having lost their last three matches to Old Belvedere, Shannon and City of Armagh.

As for Banbridge, they head into this game full of confidence after winning two of their last three matches over Malone and strugglers Navan.

Shannon vs City of Armagh, Thomond Park

Third placed Shannon will look to pick up their fourth straight win as they face City of Armagh at Thomond Park.

Both teams head into the weekend after winning their matches in round 15. Shannon produced a professional performance away from home as they Old Belvedere 22-33, whilst City of Armagh stunned St Mary’s College in a 21-10 win at the Palace Grounds.

The two teams played out a tight fixture earlier this season as City of Armagh edged Shannon 23-20 at the Palace Grounds in October.

Navan vs Old Wesley, Balreask Old

League leaders Old Wesley travel to Balreask Old to take on Navan.

Old Wesley will be looking to extend their winning streak to 10 games, and will be looking to continue a streak which has seen them avoid defeat since losing to Highfield in mid November.

Malone vs Old Belvedere, Gibson Park

Ninth meets seventh as Malone welcomes Old Belvedere to Gibson Park.

Both teams will be looking to return to winning ways this weekend, after losing to Highfield and Shannon respectively three weeks ago.
