Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 1B

Round 17 of the Energia All-Ireland Division 1B gets underway on Saturday afternoon, as league leaders Old Wesley welcome St Mary’s College to Energia Park.

Naas look to keep their winning run going as they face struggling Malone, and Highfield welcome struggling Navan to Woodleigh Park.

Malone vs Naas, Gibson Park

Fourth placed Naas head to Gibson Park as they take on Malone in Division 1B.

Naas produced arguably their best performance of the season as they defeated Highfield 27-22 at Forenaughts, whilst Malone lost to Old Belvedere at Gibson Park.

The visitors have gone on an impressive run since the restart in January, winning five of their seven games to move within four points of Highfield.

Old Wesley vs St Mary’s College, Energia Park

League leaders Old Wesley will look to continue their winning run as they welcome St Mary’s College to Energia Park.

Old Wesley are currently on a 10 game winning run, which has seen them avoid defeat since their 20-7 defeat to Highfield on the 20th November.

As for the visitors, they head into the game after defeating Banbridge 34-10 at Templeville Road, which saw them halt an alarming losing skid that saw them lose three straight matches.

Highfield vs Navan, Woodleigh Park

Highfield will look to return to winning ways as they face bottom of the table Navan at Woodleigh Park.

The hosts saw their grip on second place loosen, after a disappointing 27-22 loss to Naas last weekend, but face a Navan team that hasn’t won a game since defeating City of Armagh 18-11 in January.

Highfield were in imperious form in the reverse fixture as they scored 42 points in a dominant 17-42 win at Balreask Old in week two.

Old Belvedere vs City of Armagh, Ollie Campbell Park

Old Belvedere look for back to back wins for the first time this season as they face City of Armagh at Ollie Campbell Park.

City of Armagh will be looking to return to winning ways this weekend, after the hosts lost 29-20 away at Shannon. Whilst Old Belvedere will be looking for their second straight win, after knocking off Malone last weekend.

Banbridge vs Shannon, Rifle Park

Third placed Shannon head to Rifle Park as they take on Banbridge.

Shannon claimed the win in the reverse fixture earlier this season, as they earned a comfortable 32-10 win at Thomond Park in round two.
