Match Report

Preview: Campbell College v Wallace High School

With Methodist College Belfast awaiting them in the final, Wallace High School and Campbell College Belfast go head-to-head today in the second semi-final at Kingspan Stadium (2.30pm) to determine which team will oppose them in the St Patrick's Day decider.

For defending co-champions Wallace, it's a chance for them to make amends for missing out on playing the 2020 final, which was cancelled due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, and they will be keen to ensure they are the only names on the trophy this year.

Led by loosehead prop Cameron Doak, who is the brother of Ulster scrum-half Nathan and former Ulster scrum-half and head coach Neil, the Lisburn school will be bolstered by the likes of Matthew Crowe, Charlie Beattie and Matthew Halliday in their bid to reach back-to-back finals.

Ironically, Doak will come up against dad Neil, who is part of the Campbell coaching staff as the Belfast side look to progress to their fourth final in the last six years, and they will be considered favourites to progress from this one.

Having strolled past Down High in round four and then battled through Dromore High in the quarter-finals, Campbell are well-stocked by Irish underage players Zac Solomons at hooker and Flynn Longstaff at No.8, while Joe Hopes and Oli McCauley are also powerful operators.

In their meeting earlier in the season, it was Campbell who came out on top, but in a Schools' Cup semi-final on the bigger surface at Kingspan Stadium, it's anybody's game.
