AIL Womens – Placings Roundup

The final placings were decided in the AIL Womens competitions on Saturday, where apart from the silverware on offer in Energia Park; UL Bohemians, Wicklow and Cooke claimed wins.

UL Bohemian 19-17 Old Belvedere

UL Bohemian came out on the right side of a tight encounter to claim 3rd place in the AIL final season rankings.

There was nothing to separate the two sides at the half-time interval. The scores were level at 7-all.  A converted Alana Mclnerney effort and a Jenny Murphy try the only first half scores for their teams.

The Limerick side scored 12 more points in the second half through scores for Clodagh O’Halloran and Emer Considine. The women from Ollie Campbell Park only registered one more converted try. Ireland's Sene Naopu touched down for that one. Substitute Jemma Farrell also kicked a successful penalty, but this wasn’t enough for get the victory, coming up second best to a well drilled UL Bohs outfit.

Wicklow 31-0 Ballincollig

Jason Moreton’s Wicklow finished the season on a high with a superb 31-0 victory over Ballincollig at the weekend.

Both these teams have had their up and downs in their first AIL season and they have been relatively equally matched in their two previous meetings.

Wicklow were on the hunt for a big win after running Suttonians close the week before only losing by five points. Tries from Sarah Gleeson, Ella Roberts. Niamh Ní Dhroma and two from Meagan Parkinson earned them their biggest victory of the season.

The result definitely wasn’t a reflection on how good Ballincollig are as a team and how far they’ve come under the guidance of Fiona Hayes since she took over at the helm. It was a disappointing end to their debut campaign.

Cooke 33-5 Malone

Cooke came out on top in the Belfast derby beating Malone 33-5 on Saturday.

Both these teams have really struggled in the competition. Dolores Hughes , two from Naomi McCord, Ashleigh Orchard and Llse Van Staden  got the tries for Cooke. Anna Stanfield with the only Malone try.

Cooke finish in 9th with Malone taking the wooden spoon.
