Wesley grab four tries in win over Roscrea
Wesley College scored four tries as they produced a sensational upset 10-30 victory over Cistercian College Roscrea.
Aran Lowry, Kameron Moran Oran Handley and Jamie Fish crashed over for Wesley College, and Johnny Cazzini contributed 10 points from the boot as Wesley eased to a comfortable win.
The College’s win was even more impressive given they played the majority of the game without influential full-back Matt Golden and captain Dan Campbell, who was stretchered off with a nasty looking injury early on.
Roscrea underwhelmed despite having 10 players in their squad that had represented their provinces or Schools teams, and fly-half Charlie Naughton endured a horror show under the high-ball and from the tee.
'The Wes' raced out of the blocks and crashed over within ten minutes Aran Lowry scored from close range to give the visitors the lead.
A missed conversion and a missed penalty from Johnny Cazzini gave Roscrea a reprieve, but Cistercian struggled to exit their own half and paid the price as Kameron Moran sniped his way over for an opportunistic try. Cazzini converted to make it 0-12 for the Dublin based team.
Roscrea responded emphatically as Iiechi Oji powered over in the corner, but Nocton missed the conversion to leave the hosts seven points down. However, Cazzini cancelled that effort out with a penalty just before the break to send Wesley into the sheds with a 5-15 lead.
Wesley picked up where they left off in the second half as a bit of instinctive play from outside centre Toby Durham flipped the field and forced a turnover inside the Roscrea 22, and Cazzini stretched the lead by an extra three points with the resulting kick to make it 5-18.
Roscrea responded immediately as Ronan Lydon gave the visitors a glimmer of hope to make it 10-18 with in the 46th minute, but that proved to be as good as it got for the Tipperary school.
Handley raced in unopposed for Wesley’s third try of the day, before Jamie Fish added a late fourth try next to sticks. Cazzini added the conversion to make it a comfortable upset win for Wesley.
