Preview: W6N: France v Ireland

Greg McWilliams has named an unchanged side for Ireland’s visit to France today in Round 2 of the TikTok Women’s Six Nations (2:15pm).

Despite some great spells of rugby during their first game against Wales last weekend, Ireland did lose 27-19.

Tries from Amee Leigh Murphy, Linda Djougang and Stacey flood as well as two conversions from Cronin did give Ireland the lead with just under half an hour of rugby remaining, but Wales finished the game strongly to take home a bonus point win.

Eimear Considine starts at full back with Amee Leigh Murphy and Lucy Mulhall on the wings. Eve Higgins partners Stacey Flood in midfield with Aoibheann Reilly and Nicole Cronin making up the backline.

Linda Djougang, Neve Jones and Katie O’Dwyer face a tough test this weekend in the front row with captain Nichola Fryday and Sam Monaghan retaining their places at second row.

Dorothy Wall and Edel McMahon start at flanker with Brittany Hogan at No.8.

France cruised to a 39-6 win over Italy last weekend and they will be keen to continue their quest for the Grand Slam.

Annick Hayraud has made seven changes to the side that beat Italy with Emilie Boulard, Cyrielle Banet and Melissandre Llorens all coming into the back row. Scrum half Laure Sansus also comes into the side after her impact off the bench last weekend.

Coco Lindelauf and Laure Touye are also set to make their first starts of the campaign with Axelle Berthomieu being selected at flanker.

Les Bleus beat Ireland 56-15 the last time the side’s met but there’s no doubt that there has been improvement in the Irish camp.

Speaking on FinalWhistle.ie’s ‘The Rugby Show’, Lucy Mulhall spoke about the new philosophy’s being introduced by coach Greg McWilliams.

“ I think it’s just playing a more exciting brand of rugby is the way the Greg would put it.Trying to play to the super strengths of every player we have which we could see at times in the game (against Wales),that try by Linda (Djougang) with the offload from Sam (Monaghan). That's the sort of passing and style we want to play.” said Lucy.

“I think last weekend was a massive learning curve for us.” she added.
