Blackrock College go top of the AIL Women’s Top Four Competition after handing Railway Union their first defeat of the season.

UL Bohemian ran riot over Old Belvedere at UL Arena to send them into second place. There were bonus point wins for both Suttonians and Galwegians in the Conference Competition while Ballincollig edged out Wicklow in an entertaining affair at Ashtown lane.

Railway Union 13-16 Blackrock College, Saturday 22nd January, Park Avenue.

Railway fell to their first defeat of the AIL campaign after Blackrock College came from behind to defeat the Park Avenue outfit. Railway were leading 13-6 at half time thanks to a brace of tries from winger Tess Feury. A second half Meadbh Deely try as well as 11 points from the boot of Hannah O’Connor, secured a huge win for Rock. Railway Union host Old Belvedere next while Rock travel to Limerick to face UL Bohemian.

UL Bohemian 41-7 Old Belvedere, Saturday 22nd January, UL Arena.

UL Bohemian bounced back from last weeks’ defeat to Railway Union with a bonus point, seven try victory over Belvo. Tries from Nicole Cronin, Sarah Quin, Clodagh O’Halloran and two from Enya Breen and Chloe Pearse sent UL Bohemian into second place in the round robin series. Belvo face Railway Union next week and will be eager to find their first victory of the round robin series.

Galwegians 27-7 Cooke, Saturday 22nd January, Crowley Park.

Wegians made it two bonus point wins from two in the Conference competition thanks to a well-rounded victory over Cooke at Crowley Park. The dangerous Rhiann Heery was back on the scoresheet for her side followed by tries from Orla Dixon, Dearbhla Canty and Faith Oviawe. Cooke’s only try of the game came from a Hannah Downey first half try. Cooke will be eager to return to form next week and to try and find their first win of the conference competition away to Ballincollig. Galwegians face Suttonians who are tied at the top of the conference standings.

Suttonians 46-5 Malone, Saturday 22nd January, JJ McDowell Memorial Grounds.

Suttonians crusied to their second bonus point victory in a row with an emphatic win over Malone. The always try hungry, Mary Healy came off the bench for Suttonians to score a second half hat trick. The other Suttonians tries came courtesy of Lena Kibler, Molly Fitzgerald, Lauren Farrell McCabe and Catherine Martin. The Dublin side host Galwegians at Station Road next while Malone go in search of their first conference victory against fellow winless, Wicklow.

Wicklow RFC 14-17 Ballincollig, Saturday 22nd January, Ashtown Lane.

Collig came from behind to steal the points against Wicklow at Ashtown Lane. An early Sarah Gleeson try gave the hosts a deserved lead before Ballincollig struck back on the stroke of half time through Clare Coombes. Ballincollig went in front through a Sarah O’Donovan try but Wicklow fought back through the combination of sisters Ella and Beth Roberts. Ireland international Ella scored a fantastic try in the corner for her side before Beth followed up with a conversion from a very difficult angle. A penalty from Denise Redmond, fifteen minutes from time secured the win for Ballincollig.
