Ulster grab bonus in Lions win

Ulster secured a bonus point win over the Lions, to remain unbeaten in the United Rugby Championship, after a 26-10 win at Kingspan Stadium.

A brace by Nick Timoney, was added to by Matty Rea and James Hume, as the Ulster side laid the mark down in this evenings contest.

The visitors proved difficult as Stean Pienaar crossed early to level, while EW Viljoen added the extras from his boot.

Four from four now for the Ulstermen, they have started well in the competition, adding four bonus points along the way, they have set the pace early to push on for a title challenge.

Ulster got their opening try early try, Andrew Warwick throwing a short line out to Rob Herring, he played a fast pass to offload to Nick Timoney who charged across, in the fourth minute, Nathan Doak failed to add the conversion,

Lions looked strong early and from their own line out, they the phases the get their opening try, piling the pressure on the Ulster line, they spread the ball wide to Stean Pienaar who touched in the corner, fly half EW Vilojen adding the extras, 7-5.

The men in white were looking to get back in the tie, they had a great chance on the half hour mark. David McCann with the opportunity but the ball was knocked on as he made contact, great build up with Ethan McIlroy offloading in the buildup, but McCann failed to gather.

Ulster's patience and pressure warranted the reward, and on the 35th minute James Hume was on the end of a wide pass from Billy Burns, the centre in acres of spaces crossing for their second try of the night. Doak added the extras to put them 12-7 ahead.

Having kicked an earlier conversion, Lions out half Vilojen added a monster penalty, to narrow the Ulster lead to just two points, 12-10, on the stroke of half time, with the referee blowing the whistle seconds later for the interval.

Ulster were forced into an early change in the second half, Will Addison being stretchered off as Michael Lowry came in to take his place, not looking good for the fullback.

The Ravenhill side crossed for their third try of the evening in the 48th minute, Matty Rea got over as he made use of an Ulster maul right on the line, with Doak adding the conversion to make it 19-10.

With both sides looking to add to the scoreboard, it was the home side who hit the jugular, Nick Timoney receiving the ball from a pass at the back of the maul, he used his power to charge over the line, to give his team the bonus point. 

Doak again added the conversion, his third of the evening, to make it 26-10, a lead they would hold until the end, another fantastic display from the men in white, seeing them top the table.
