Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 2C

Enniscorthy remain the early pace setters, in the Energia Men’s All-Ireland League Division 2C, as an early gap is developing for the top four clubs. All of the ties kick off at 2:30pm on Saturday.

Bangor will aim to record another victory, as they welcome Midleton to Upritchard Park, the Cork side also picking up a win the previous weekend, as they look to close the gap at the top.

A Gareth Millar penalty and a Matt Nesbitt converted try, gave the side a 10-3 lead at half time, two quick tries by Mike Weir extended the lead to 22-3. Both sides recorded two late tries each, as the Ulster side have momentum for this weekend.

Round two’s local derby in Cork went the way of Midleton, who battled their way to a 14-6 win over Sunday’s Well. They had two unanswered second half tries in the form of a penalty try and a late Denis Broderick penalty.

Bruff welcome Clonmel to Kilballyowen Park, in an all Munster Derby, neither side have picked up a win this season, as they sit in 9th and 8th place respectively.

Bruff went down 17-18 to Skerries last weekend, a late try followed by a penalty, saw them fall short at home, they will aim for better this weekend to finish stronger.

Ian Keatley’s Clonmel lost 29-13 to Bangor in their first home league match. Roland Marki and Dean Slattery notched two late consolation tries, as they fell short to two late Bangor tries.

Enniscorthy will look to continue their unbeaten run of form, as they welcome Omagh Academicals to Alcast Park, the Ulster side still looking for their first win of the season.

Scorty have been the league's early pace setters, picking up a resounding 48-10 winners, over City of Derry at Judge’s Road. Enniscorthy built a commanding 29-5 interval lead, and never looked like surrendering the advantage, pushing Derry all the way.

Omagh suffered a late 19-16 defeat to Tullamore, the Tyrone outfit came back midway through the half to level matters, as both sides exchanged penalties late in the half, but it was a decisive drop goal that won the game for Tullamore.

Skerries will look to go top of the table, as they welcome a tough Tullamore side to Holmpatrick, the Offaly side sitting just a point behind them in the table.

Skerries overturned a nine point deficit to win at Bruff. The Goats prevailing 18-17 thanks to a late Oisin McKey try and a decisive penalty from Paul O’Loghlen.

A last minute drop goal from fly half Sam Burns saw Tullamore make it back to back wins. They had a successful trip to Tyrone, as they dug deep to take the win from Omagh Academicals, coming out 19-16 winners.

Sundays Well are aiming for their first win of the season, as they welcome a down on their luck City of Derry, to Musgrave Park, the Derry side have been hampered by injuries in recent weeks, sitting bottom of the tables they are aiming for an opening win.

The Well went down 14-6 to Midleton, having led 6-0 at the break, Eoin Geary landing penalties after 10 and 36 minutes, but were second best in the second half, failing to respond to two tries and a penalty.

The Ulster outfit failed to contend with Enniscorthy, going down 48-10, Derry losing two-thirds of their starting front row to injury, leading to a shaky lineout and weakened scrum, their main positive coming from returning winger Calum O’Hagan, who added two tries.
