Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 2C

The Energia Men’s All-Ireland League, kick-started this afternoon, with plenty of action shown across all the games in Division 2C.

A fantastic 17-point performance by Gareth Millar, helped give his side Bangor, a 22-13 point win over Bruff.

Millar added two early penalties, before converting a Conor Lusty try, to leave it 13-3 early on.

Bruff levelled the game with 20 minutes left on the clock, again it was the boot of Millar to be the difference, as he added three more unanswered penalties to decide the game.

Enniscorthy were 39-17 winners over Midleton, as they got their season off to great start at Alcast Park.

Daniel Pim, Kevin O’Connor and Nick Doyle all getting early tries, only the latter was failed to be converted, by fly half Ben Kidd. Midleton had a man sent off just after the opening try. 

Having lead 19-0 at the break, Ivan Jacob crossed for their fourth try, minutes into the second half. Midleton grabbed their first try minutes later, the conversion failed, but Kidd was on hand to convert a penalty for Scorthy.

Doyle crosses again for his second try of the afternoon, but the conversion was missed in the process. Niall Parker added their sixth try 15 minutes later, 39-5 as it stood. The Cork side added two late consolation tries, but the home side proved too strong on the day.

Skerries picked up a 42-29 win over Omagh Academicals, in the sunshine of Holpatrick, a tough game of rugby on show by both sides.

Omagh crossed with the first try, before adding a penalty in the 20th minute, to leave it 10-3 in favour of the Tyrone side.

Eoghan Carron crossed for Skerries first try, with Paul O’Loghlen adding the conversion, before he kicked a penalty to make it 13-10.  The visitors crossed twice before the half time break, to leave it 22-13 at the interval.

Colin Doyle got his sides second try, O’Loghlen converting again, with the fly half scoring a penalty just before hand, this pushed them to a one point lead, 23-22.

Conn Marey added a third try minutes later, with O’Loghlen on hand again to kick a superb conversion, leaving it 30-22 after 62 minutes.

Oisin McKee got their fourth try from a O’Loghlen cross field kick, the fly half doing well in the build up, but failed to add the two points.

Kevin McGrath got their fifth and final try of the afternoon, stretching the lead to 20 points, 42-22, Omagh managing another try late on.

Sundays Well and Clonmel, played out an entertaining 17-17 draw, at Musgrave Park in their season opener.

The home side crossing for their opening try 10 minutes in, the effort was cancelled out minutes later, Conor Pearson getting the try while Andrew Daly kicked the conversion, 7-5 after 12 minutes.

The Well went back ahead after 20 minutes, converting a try to lead 12-7, a lead they would hold to half time. Luke Noonan got Clonmel level on the 50th minute mark, the conversion failed.

Luke Hogan crossed minutes later for Clonmels third try, but again Daly failed to convert the conversion.

Late drama toward the end, the Cork side crossed to level in the 78th minute, Alex Lane missed the conversion chance, as the sides shared the points.

Tullamore got their season off to a winning start, picking up a 23-19 win over City of Derry, in a game which produced plenty of cards.

Adam Markey got the opening try of the game for Derry, the conversion saw them lead 7-3 in the early stages.

Tullamore crosses over for a try minutes later, the unconverted effort saw them lead 8-7, a lead they would take to the break.The Offaly side added a penalty and try shortly after the restart, to lead 16-7.

They added a third from a penalty try later in the half, Derry failing to contain them due to three players picking up yellow cards, their lead out to 16 points, 23-7. Derry managed two late tires Pube and Alex Grubber, getting over to score for the Ulster side.
