Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 2B

The Top Four is beginning to take shape in Division 2B of the Energia All Ireland League. Galway Corinthians closed the gap on league leaders Greystones after an entertaining clash at Corinthian Park while there were also wins for Blackrock College and Belfast Harlequins.

Galway Corinthians 33-21 Greystones, Saturday 26th March, Corinthian Park.

The Connacht side are now just three points behind once runaway leaders, Greystones after a big victory over their promotion rivals. It’s now 11 wins all season for Corinthians with only Greystones winning more games all season. There’s another huge game for Galway Corinthians next week when they face Belfast Harlequins at Deramore Park. For Greystones, they will be hoping to get back to winning ways against Malahide at Dr.Hickey Park.

Malahide 28-25 Sligo, Saturday 26th March, Estuary Road.

Malahide got their form back on track this week and made in five wins from their last six games as they narrowly edged out Sligo at home this weekend. Sligo are now sitting 18 points from the promotion places and will have to be planning ahead of another season in Division 2B. Sligo face Dungannon next week while Malahide takes a short trip south to Greystones.

Dungannon 22-15 Wanderers, Saturday 26th March, Stevenson Park.

The Ulster men grinded out a huge victory over promotion hopefuls Wanderers this weekend. Dungannon remain in seventh place but are now just one point behind Sligo who thye face next week. Wanderers now sit six points adrift of Belfast Harlequins in fourth place and will need other sides to do them some favours in the remaining fixtures should they wish to finish in the top 4.

Blackrock College 33-18 Galwegians, Saturday 26th March, Stradbrook.

A big second half from the home side was needed after a strong start from Galwegians at Stradbrook. Wegians are still sitting in last place and will need nothing short of a miracle if they are to survive relegation to 2C. Blackrock College are sitting well poised in third place ahead of the upcoming top four semi-finals. Blackrock College face Ballina next while Galwegians host Wanderers.

Ballina 10-21 Belfast Harlequins, Saturday 26th March, Heffernan Park.

Belfast Harlequins found an important win on the road over Ballina this weekend as they remain on the course for promotion. Ballina are sitting second from the bottom but are 11 points clear of Galwegians. Ballina face a trip to the capital next to face Blackrock College while Belfast Harlequins host Galway Corinthians.
