Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 2B

Division 2B of the Men’s All Ireland Rugby League is kicking off this weekend will all ten teams in action this Saturday afternoon.

Belfast Harlequins play host to Malahide at Deramore Park at 2:30pm and both sides will be looking to get off to a winning start ahead of the highly competitive season. Quins are sitting in fifth place of the Ulster Rugby Premiership Division 2 League table with just one win in their first four games. Belfast lost 25-13 last weekend to Ballymena in an entertaining affair.

Harlequins opponents Malahide also fell to a disappointing defeat last week at the hands of Tullamore with the final score ending 22-10. A first half Jack Foley try wasn’t enough to fire the Dublin side to the win in Malahide. Malahide are currently sitting bottom of the Leinster Senior League Division 2c after defeats to Barnhall and Tullamore but Brendan Guilfoyle’s side will be hoping to lead his team to a first win of the season this weekend.

Galway Corinthians travel to Stradbrook to face Blackrock College on Saturday. Blackrock finished in 2nd place in their Division 2A group after wins over Enniscorthy and Naas with their only loss coming against group winners Greystones on Matchday 1.

A late Dylan Keane penalty gave Galway Corinthians a 19-17 win over Sligo last week in their final Connacht Senior League game. Corinthians finished the league campaign with two wins and two losses placing them in third place on the table.

Galwegians host Connacht League winners Ballina RFC at Crowley Park. Ballina ran out 33-12 winners over Galwegians at the start of September and will be hoping for a performance similar to that this weekend when they face off again. Tries from Patrick Howley, Liam Jones, Callum Quinn, Darragh Whyte and Billy McVann sealed the win for the Mayo men.

Galwegians failed to register a win during the Connacht league Campaign and will have it all to do at the weekend if they’re to beat this Ballina side.

Wicklow side Greystones play host to Dungannon at Dr.Hickey Park this weekend. Greystones topped their Leinster Division 2A group with an impressive three wins from three over Blackrock College RFC, Naas and Enniscorthy and Paul Lennon’s side will be hoping to continue their rich vein of form this Saturday with victory over Dungannon.

The away side sit in third place of the Ulster Rugby Premiership Division 2 after victories over Bangor and City of Derry and a draw against Belfast Harlequins.

Wanderers travel across the N4 to play Sligo on Saturday afternoon. Sligo finished in 2nd place of the Connacht league thanks to wins over Buccaneers, Galwegians and league winners Ballina who only one by a bonus point after Sligo’s final day defeat to Galway Corinthians.

Dublin side, Wanderers FC overcame Navan and Skerries to win Leinster Division 2B this month and will be aiming to win their second 2B competition later this year. They overcame Navan by 13 points to 7 at Balreask Old before a 26-7 victory at home to Skerries secured their League win.
