Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 2A

The Energia Men’s All-Ireland League, kick-started this afternoon, with plenty of action across all the games in Division 2A.

A try deep into injury time, saw Buccaneers pick up a 18-16 win over Cashel. Cashel managed to pick up a losing bonus point, but will be disappointed with the result.

Buccs led 13-3 at the break, but a rejuvenated Cashel side came out flying in the second half. They tied the game with 50 minutes on the clock, before converting a penalty to lead by three minutes later.

Late drama ensued as Buccaneers crossed over, for a try two minutes into injury time, Ger Fallon missed the conversation attempt, but his side got the valuable points at Dubarry Park.

MU Barnhall continued their form from the 2019/20 season, as they picked up a 32-24 win on the road against Nenagh Ormond.

It was a tough encounter in the opening half, Barnhall lead 27-17 at the interval, Nenagh not letting their prior form, stop them putting in a great performance.

Nenagh got in to score a try early in the second half, Fionn McGibney added the conversion to leave it 27-24, a three point game with plenty of action late on.

Both sides battled for the remainder of the half, the decisive moment came late on, Barnhall managing to touch down again for a try, fly half Adam Chester missed the conversion, but his side did enough for their away win.

Tries were plentiful in the Ulster derby in Division 2A, as Queen's University recorded a 40-24 win over Ballymena at Dub Lane.

Queens started on top, recording two unconverted tries before adding a penalty to make it 13-3, early in the half.

James McCormick responded with a try shortly after, Tim Small on hand to convert the conversion. Queens added a further three tries, to leave the score 32-10 at the break.

McCormick managed to get the first try of the second half, Small again adding the conversion, the kicker in good form during the afternoon.

Queens stretched their lead out to 40-17, before McCormick completed his hattrick late on, crossing over for another try.

Raineys Old Boys had to come from behind, to record victory over Old Crescent, the home side picking up a 24-17 win.

Cathal Monaghan and Jack O’Mahony scored early tries for Crescent, Ronan McKenna converting both while also adding a penalty.

Raineys managed to cross over for two converted tires, before the break leaving it 17-14 in the Limerick sides favour.

The home side managed to pull ahead in the 65th minute, adding another converted try, to lead 21-17, they managed to hold onto their lead, before adding a late penalty to seal the win.

Dolphin had a 20-6 win over UL Bohemian, in their provincial clash this afternoon. Dolphin crossed for the opening try in the 16th minute, 

Harry Byrne scoring UL’s only points of the game, in the opening half, the fly half adding two penalties.

Dolphin lead 17-6 at the break, crossing over just before the break to extend their lead. The side adding a penalty just after the restart to leave it 20-6.
