Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 1A

Round 11 of the Energia All-Ireland Division 1A got underway on Saturday afternoon, with a number of shocks to savour.

Clontarf stretched their lead at the top of the table, while Lansdowne and Young Munster lost ground on the leaders after defeats to Garryowen and UCD.

Ballynahinch 23-27 Terenure College, Ballymacarn Park

Colm de Buitléar scored a hat-trick as Terenure College edged Ballynahinch at Ballymacarn Park.

Ballynahinch ran the game close as Rory Butler scored twice and Greg Hutler kicked three penalties, but De Buitlear’s hat-trick proved to be the difference between the sides.

Dublin University​ 9-23 Clontarf, College Park

Clontarf maintained their lead at the top of Division 1A as they cruised to a 9-23 against Dublin University away at College Park.

Tries from Matt D'Arcy, Cian O’Donoghue, Ivan Soroka and eight points from the boot of David Hawkshaw helped Clontarf extend their lead at the top of the table.

Garryowen 31-24 Young Munster, Dooradoyle

Young Munster missed the chance to close the gap on second place Lansdowne as they fell to a 31-24 defeat at the hands of Garryowen at Dooradoyle.

The visitors clawed to within eight points before a try from Bryan Fitzgerald sealed the win, Young Munster added a late try and a penalty to secure a losing bonus point.

Cork Constitution ​24​​-7 UCC, Temple Hill

Cork Constitution scored three tries as they cruised to a 24-7 win against UCC at Temple Hill.

Tries from Sean French, Max Abbott, David Hyland gave Cork Constitution a valuable four points to keep them in sixth place.

UCD 32-27 Lansdowne, Belfield

UCD pulled off the shock of the round as they defeated second place Lansdowne in a bonus-point 32-27 win at Belfield.

Lansdowne entered the round level on points with leaders Clontarf, but have since dropped four points behind the leaders after losing to struggling UCD.
