Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 1A

Division 1A of the All-Ireland rugby league is set for another weekend of mouth-watering action, with five games taking place on Saturday at the regular time of 2:30pm.

At Castle Avenue, Clontarf host Cork Constitution, with the hosts coming into the game two for two and in third after comfortable wins over UCD and Ballynahinch.

The visitors have endured a difficult start to the season lying in seventh and suffered narrow back-to-back defeats at the hands of Lansdowne and Young Munster but have picked up two losing points.

In the previous meeting between the two sides, Cork Constitution beat Clontarf 28-25 back in October 2019.

At College Park, Dublin University host Ballynhainch, with the hosts sitting in sixth in the table on four points after last week’s blowout 31-0 win over UCD and their 16-11 loss to Lansdowne on the opening day.

Ballynahinch are pointless in eighth place after suffering back-to-back defeats at the hands of Young Munster and Clontarf.

The two teams last played back in November 2019, with Ballynahinch winning a thriller 25-34 at College Park.

Table toppers Garryowen host UCD at Dooradoyle, after the hosts’ successive bonus point victories over Dublin University and UCC.

In a direct contrast of fortunes, UCD have endured a miserable campaign, suffering two hefty defeats at the hands of Clontarf and Dublin University, with the students on a dismal -48 points difference.

In the previous meeting between the two sides, UCD defeated Garryowen by the finest of margins 25-24.

At The Mardyke, UCC host Landowne, with the hosts sitting in ninth after a difficult start to the season, suffering defeats to Terenure College and Garryowen.

Their opponents Lansdowne lie in fourth after two wins from two, against Cork Constitution and Terenure College.

In the previous meeting between the two sides, UCC beat Lansdowne 25-22.

Young Munster host Terenure College at Tom Clifford Park, with the hosts coming into the game second in the table after impressive wins over Ballynahinch and Cork Constitution.

Terenure College lie in fifth, after a win over UCC in the opening round and last week’s defeat to Lansdowne.

The two teams last met in October where Terenure College defeated Young Munster 30-23 at Lakelands Park.
