Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 1A

Division 1A in the All-Ireland rugby league returns for a second week of action on Friday night, with five more games across the weekend.

The opening round saw maximum points given to Garryowen, Terenure College, Young Munster and Clontarf, with Lansdowne picking up four points and Cork Constitution getting a losing bonus point.

At Belfield, UCD host Dublin University to kick off the round’s action on Friday night at 8:00 PM, with the hosts coming into the game off the back of a 37-13 thrashing defeat at home to Terenure College.

The visitors also suffered a heavy home loss in the opening week, falling to Garryowen 35-10.

In the previous meeting between the two sides back in October 2019, UCD thrashed Dublin University 30-19.

Ballynahinch host Clontarf at 2:30 on Saturday at Ballymacarn Park, with the hosts coming into the game off the back of a 29-7 away defeat to Young Munster.

The visitors were victorious in the opening round, 29-12 at home to UCD.

The last time the two sides played was back in December 2019, with Clontarf victorious in a high-scoring 47-21 victory.

Also, at 2:30pm on Saturday, Cork Constitution host Young Munster at Temple Hill.

The home side got off to a losing start as they narrowly fell to Lansdowne 16-11, whilst the visitors Young Munster kicked off their campaign with a bonus point win 29-7 win at home to Ballynahinch.

In the previous meeting between the two sides back in January 2020, Young Munster were victorious 35-21.

Garryowen host UCC on Saturday at 2:30pm at Dooradoyle, with the hosts going into the game off the back of an impressive 35-10 away win.

The visitors in a direct contrast of fortunes, suffered a hefty defeat at home to Terenure College, 37-13.

The last time the two sides played was back in January 2020, with Garryowen victorious away from home 15-7.

The college are in action at the same time, at home to Lansdowne who were victorious on the opening weekend, 16-11 at home to Cork Constitution.

In the previous meeting between the two sides back in January 2020, saw the two sides separated by just a point, with Lansdowne victorious 17-16.
