Match Report

Leinster find their feet in victory at Aviva Inter-pro

Leinster made it six wins from six when they defeated a dogged Munster side at the Aviva Stadium.

Twice Munster were ahead in the game but when Johnny Sexton kicked over a penalty in the 58th minute to put four between the sides Leinster where able to control the game.

They added two more tries to their tally to claim a 14-point win over Munster and make it 16 wins out of the last 19 meetings between the two sides.

Leinster put Munster under a lot of pressure in the opening exchanges, but Graham Rowntree’s men held firm. Sexton had the chance to open the scoring in the third minute, but he uncharacteristically missed it.

Munster continued to hold on and in the 20th minute Joey Carberry had a chance to get his side’s first point on the board, but he also missed. Two minutes later he made amends to put his side 0-3 ahead.

In the 27th minute Munster’s Keelan Knox was sin-binned for a tackle on James Ryan. one minute later and Scott Penny drove over for the opening try of the game. Sexton kicked over the conversion.

The lead was cut to one point in the 34th minute when Caelan Doris was penalised and Carberry was on target with the kick. Minutes later Jamie Osbourne broke, the ball eventually came to Cian Healy’s but his pass came off Osbourne who looked like he was about to go over.

On 38th minutes Munster’s Jean Kleyn was sin-binned for a challenge on Osbourne; the player had to go off for a HIA. Just before the break Munster held Leinster up to deny Dan Sheehan a chance to ground the ball.

A misplaced pass from Luke McGrath ended with Liam Coombes going over for Munster in the 46th minute. Four minutes later Sheehan finished a good move with a try. Sexton extended the lead to four in the 58th minute with his first penalty of the game.

The lead was nine in the 62nd minute when a maul ended with McGrath going over for Leinster’s third try of the game. Substitute Ross Russell sealed a fine win with a try in the 77th minute.
