AIL Roundup: Women’s Division

Old Belvedere continued their unbeaten streak with another win this afternoon, Galwegians just a point behind them, Railway Union also remain unbeaten, while UL Bohemian get some momentum with a first win.

Wicklow 24-27 UL Bohemian, Ashtown Lane

UL have picked up their first points of the season with a three-point win over Wicklow. Earning a bonus point for their hard work, they worked hard for the points in the end.

Trailing 12-10 at the break, a blistering second half showing was enough for the victory, tries coming from Eilis Cahill, Alana McInerney, Muirne Wall and a brace by Rebecca Reilly putting the points on the board.

Kate Flannery kicked one conversion on her debut, a late Laura Barry try secured the losing bonus point and try bonus point for the hosts in injury time.

Galwegians 29-5 Cooke, Crowley Park

Wegians looked comfortable in defeating second from bottom Cooke in a bonus point display at Crowley Park.

Welcoming back both Laoise McGonagle and Mairead Coyne proved fruitful as both crossed for a try. Helen McGhee crossed for Cooke in the opening halfas they trailed 14-5 at the interval.

Back came the Galway side after the restart the draw last weekend certainly a result they did not want to repeat, taking their scores well to finish the game off as a contest.

Old Belvedere 24-7 Suttonians, Ollie Campbell Park

Old Belvedere take the bragging rights from the Dublin derby with a bonus point win, moving them top for the weekend.

Dannah O’Brien again continues to catch the eye a try and two conversions for her tally, showing why she earned the callup to the national team.

All of the Belvo points came in the opening half and by half time it looked like the second half would be a cricket score, however Shannon Touhey’s converted try was the only score of the second half, Órfhlaith Murray’s boot reducing the arrears but not enough to bring Sutts back.

Railway Union 79-0 Ballincollig, Park Avenue

Union never looked phased by the challenge of Ballincollig, their second win of the season secured in emphatic style, the bonus point moving them up to third in the table.

Aoife Doyle impressed back in the AIL from her sevens duties, a brace of tries for her, while Claire Boles also notched a try, scoring 13 tries in total by the end of the contest.

Christine Coffey kicked seven conversions from the tee in a great showing for her, the 38-0 half time score signalled their scoring was far from over in the second half.
