AIL Roundup: Division 2C Week 17

Tullamore have the advantage of securing second on the final day as they lead Skerries, Bruff now trail by three to Clonmel, while at the other end Well look to be relegated per their points difference.

Sundays Well (3T) 24-23 (3T) Midleton, Musgrave Park

Well got their win over a big rival at the weekend but points difference does see them finish bottom of the table and with it they are relegated.

Fabien Loughrey struck a last minute penalty to secure the win on friday night, Midelton started better pulling an 8-0 lead to the break, Stuart Lee kicked an early penalty before Cillian Lynch scored.

Into the second half Cormac Kelliher managed to force his way over, Loughrey converted to make it a one point game, Eoin O’Sullivan crossed for Well minutes later as they looked to pull away, Lee landed a penalty to make it a one-point game before Lee himself got over with his conversion making it a 18-14 game.

Kelliher managed to bag a second try as the game swung back for Well leading by three, Kyle Read added a third for Midleton and they had a two point lead as a result but the boot of Loughrey secured the win.

Ballina (4T) 27-17 (3T) Bangor, Heffernan Park

Ballina have the advantage in their corner to stay up as they were bonus point winners over Bangor.

Bradley O’Leary and Calum Quinn added early tries before Bngor replied, Calum Quinn crossed before Darragh Whyte landed a penalty to cap off a 22-5 lead at the break.

Whyte bagged a try in the 65th minute to complete the bonus point, but Bangor struck two tries late on but just were unable to cut the gap further.

Bruff (2T) 17-24 (3T) Tullamore, Kilballyowen Park

Tullamore lead by a point over Skerries in the race for second place, as a solid bonus point win saw them over the line against Bruff.

Andy O’Brien crossed early for Bruff, but Tullamore came back into the tie as three tries and a penalty put them 24-7 clear, Shane Duggan and a Paul Collins penalty helped Bruff salvage a losing bonus point as they still have a shot at promotion.

Clonmel (3T) 19-36 (6T) Omagh Academicals, Ardghaoithe

Clonmel remain fourth as Omagh claimed a big win to put them out of the drop zone.

It was the hosts who started better with two converted tries but Omagh got one back to stay in the tie, Accies would snatch a second try before the break to trail 14-12.

After the restart Accies added two tries to put them in the ascendancy as they moved ahead 24-14, Luke Hogan added his second try for the hosts to cut the deficit but two further tries pulled the visitors clear.

Instonians (7T) 45-26 (4T) Skerries, Shaws Bridge

Instonians lifted their 2C crown after an exciting contest with Skerries at Shaws Bridge.

Schalk Van Der Merwe added a try two minutes in but an exciting opening few minutes saw Skerries reply with Kevin McGrath getting over, Conor Gallagher and Robert Whitten both added impressive tries to make it a 19-7 lead at the break.

John Waters struck first blood for Skerries as the second half got underway, making it a five point game, but the hosts kicked into gear as Anton Lupari, Zak Davidson and Daniel Keane all added tries to stretch their lead to 38-14.

Tries from Josh Ericson and McGrath secured the bonus point late in the half as they made it 38-26, but the hosts added a seventh through Oli Clarke to cap off their 17th bonus point win of the season.
