AIL Roundup: Division 2B Week 6

Greystones have moved six clear at the summit as they remain unbeaten meanwhile Belfast Harlequins move into the top three, Sligo also enjoyed a win to boost confidence.

Dungannon 24-31 Galway Corinthians, Stevenson Park

Galway Corinthians remain second after defeating Dungannon at the weekend.

The visitors shot into a 19-7 lead by the interval, but the second half proved to be nervy at times as Dungannon produced a great comeback but in the end were second best.

Enniscorthy 10-30 Belfast Harlequins, Alcast Park

Belfast Harlequins are up into third spot, after coming from behind in a commanding bonus point win in Wexford.

Scorthy indeed took the game early on as they got an unconverted try in the first half, a yellow was shown to Scorthy but they ploughed on to win the half.

Harlequins replied after the break for a 7-5 lead before the hosts got their second unconverted try through David O’Dwyer to make it 10-7, back came the Belfast side as they notched another converted try for a four point lead.

They took the game from here, two penalties and two tries saw them coast to picking up five points at the end of the second half.

Galwegians 11-13 Malahide, Crowley Park

A late penalty saw Malahide take the points and record a second successive win in the league.

Wegians took hold early of the game with a penalty in the opening minutes, Shane Malon extended their lead with a chip and chase to cross over for an 8-0 lead.

After 27 minutes Malahide came back, Ben Woods the scorer after a dangerous maul, into the second half Malahide kicked a penalty to put them into the lead 10-8.

It was an end for the kickers, Wegians felt they had done enough as they went back into the tie by the 61st minute, however four minutes from time it would be Malahide’s day, as they struck the penalty.

Greystones 29-7 Rainey Old Boys, Dr Hickey Park

Greystones have extended their unbeaten streak to six games as they overcame the challenge in the form of Rainey Old Boys.

On a tough week for the Wicklow club they managed yet another bonus point win to keep a firm grip on the summit of the table.

Leading 12-7 at the break, they limited their visitors to no score in the second half, cruising to victory as the scoreboard ticked over in their favour.

Wanderers 19-22 Sligo, Merrion Road

Sligo picked up some much needed form as they held firm to defeat Wanderers on the road.

The visitors crossed early for an unconverted try, Ryan Feehily the man to get over and touch it down, the difficult conversion missed for a 5-0 lead. Wanderers replied minutes later level the game.

It would be Sligo to lead at the break, a great maul saw them go over the line and touch down for a 10-5 lead at the break. Into the second half Wanderers took the lead as they crossed again as the conversion was good, 12-10.

Cathal Finneran was next to go over for Sligo, again the conversion would go wide but Sligo with the advantage once more 15-12. Wanderers would go back into the lead with a converted try as this game was certainly a nail biter.

Sligo would restore their lead as Shane O’Heir off the back of a maul got over for the score, the extras added made it 22-19, they would not slip late on and take the result in the end.
