AIL Roundup: Division 1B Week 8

Buccaneers and City of Armagh are the top 2 teams in division 1B at the moment, closely followed by St Mary’s College. Highfield and Old Belvedere got much needed wins over the weekend too.

Buccaneers 44-13 Banbridge, Dubarry Park

Winger Josh O’Connor was on fire for Buccaneers this weekend, running in four tries in what was a convincing and dominant display by his team.

The Athlone men just can’t stop winning at the moment. They sit top of the table. Things couldn’t be going any better for Eddie O’Sullivan’s troops.

Banbridge suffered another disappointing defeat. They still sit near the bottom of the table.

City of Armagh 38-27 Naas, Palace Grounds

City of Armagh has too much for Naas as their impressive home winning record continues after a strong 38-27 victory.

The lightning quick Dylan Nelson scored a hattrick. The men from the Orchard County are keeping the pressure on Buccaneers at the top of the table.

Johne Murphy’s Naas have been very below par this season and things don’t get any easier as they have to deal with the visit of Buccaneers next week.

Old Wesley 10-15 St Mary’s College, Energia Park

St Mary’s College were the victors in the South Dublin Derby beating Old Wesley 10-15 on Saturday.

The scores were all square 7-7 at the halftime interval. The visitors scores two tries through Conor Dean and Hugo Conway. This made the difference with David Moyter getting Old Wesley’s only try of the day.

St Mary’s keep themselves in 3rd place. They’ll be keen to make sure of that playoff position this time around.

Old Belvedere 29-13 Malone, Ollie Campbell Park

Old Belvedere were back in their favourite place Ollie Campbell Park and with that they got back to winning ways at the weekend.

Ben Mannion’s side got all the 5 points available. Jayden Beckett, Callum Dowling, Justin Leonard and Ariel Robles crossed twice in the victory.

Malone never really got going. Their talisman and captain Dave Cave got over from close range to get their only score of the game.

Highfield 29-10 UCC, Woodleigh Park

Highfield won the first Cork serby of the season against a UCC team that seem to be slipping down a slippery slope.

Travis Coomey with two, Miah Cronin, Amhlaoibh Porter and Dave O’Sullivan all crossed the line for the hosts.

Louis Bruce got the only try for Michael Bradley’s team.
