AIL Roundup: Division 1A Week 17

League leaders Clontarf have all but secured top spot heading into the final round next week while UCD, Dublin University and Shannon are gearing up for a survival battle.

Lansdowne 28-31 Clontarf, Aviva Stadium back pitch

Clontarf strengthened their title hopes going into the playoffs with a bonus point win courtesy of tries from Mark O’Sullivan, Dylan Donnellan, Tony Ryan (2) and a penalty try.

Despite the loss, Lansdowne secured two bonus points through scores by Ruairi Clarke, Dan Murphy, Daniel McEvoy and Peter Sullivan.

They lie in sixth and look home and dry from relegation while Clontarf are five points clear at the top.

UCD 22-19 Dublin University, UCD Bowl

UCD strengthened their survival hopes with a massive win over fellow strugglers Dublin University.

Jack Boyle’s brace and Bobby Sheehan’s try was enough for a priceless four points but Colm Hogan, James Dillon and a penalty try were enough for the students to escape with a losing bonus.

Cork Constitution 27-23 Terenure College, Temple Hill

Player of the match Brendan Quinlan put in a huge performance to lead Cork Constitution to an invaluable win and leave them just two points behind the final home semi-final spot.

Shannon 26-10 Ballynahinch, Thomond Park

Strugglers Shannon picked up a huge bonus point victory to give their hopes of survival a lifeline.

Shannon are three points behind UCD and Dublin University but possess a much worse points difference going into the final round.

Garryowen 28-22 Young Munster, Dooradoyle

Bottom side Garryowen picked up just their second win of the season in a huge upset beating fourth place Young Munster.
