Review: Lidl NFL Div 3 Week 5

Things are tight at the top of Division 3 with Kildare, Wexford and Louth all on 12 points after this weekend’s games. Offaly remain bottom and without a point after losing to Kildare. 

Offaly 2-06 Kildare 3-17

Neasa Dooley scored 3-5 as Kildare returned to winning ways and also went back to the top of Division 3. Offaly remain bottom of Division 3 without a point.

It was a dominant display from Diane O’Hora’s charges who were on top in most areas of the field. Dooley scored two of her goals in the opening half as they held a 2-9 to 1-4 lead at the break.

Roisin Mealiff scored both of Offaly’s goals as they just couldn’t find a way to contain the Lilywhites. 

Longford 2-09 Sligo 0-20

A big result at the bottom of Division 3 saw Sligo move up to sixth in the table with a five point win over Longford in Killoe.

Sligo took the game to Longford and took a 0-10 to 1-5 lead in at half-time. Caoimhe Lohan scored Longford’s goal. Grace Shannon missed a penalty for Longford.

Longford came at Sligo in the second half but the Yeats County’s defence were resilient as they helped their side to a crucial win.

Clare 0-06 Down 0-04

Clare got back to winning ways with a two point win over Down in Ennis. The win moved them up to fourth in the table, three points off a Division 3 Final place.

The Banner made a great start to the game. They kicked over five points in that half with Ciara McCarthy scoring two. Down were held scoreless in that opening half.

Down came back at Clare in the second half. The Banner keeper Amy Lenihan pulled off a point blank save a the start of the half to keep her goal intact.

Louth 1-05 Wexford 2-06

Goals from Aisling Murphy and Caithriona Murray helped Wexford to a win over Louth to move them up to second in the table.

In a tight first half the sides were level at the interval 0-4 apiece. Both the game opened up in the second half.

With Wexford just ahead by one point with normal time approaching Murray got their second goal to extend the lead to four and they held on for the win.
