Review: Lidl NFL Div 3 Week 4

Kate Flood’s point saw Louth overcome Kildare in the top of the table clash in Hawkfield this afternoon. Clare keeper Amy Lenihan pulled off a number of fine saves as her side got a much needed win against Offaly. 

Down 4-13 Longford 0-07

Down recorded their third win of the campaign with a comprehensive win over Longford in Newry this afternoon.

Leading by five points after 20 minutes, Down got their first goal one minute later to extend their lead. They were ahead by nine at half-time.

Longford could only score three points in the second half while Down added three more goals to their tally. 

Sligo 0-07 Wexford 0-08

In a game where Sligo ended with 13 players, due to sin bins, Wexford recorded a narrow win away to Sligo.

Scores were at a premium in this game. Wexford also had players yellow carded in a tough contest. 

Wexford had been ahead by three but Sligo hit back to level matters with minutes of the game remaining. Wexford were able to get a score late on to claim the win.

Offaly 1-13 Clare 2-11

Clare picked up their second win of the campaign but were made work hard for this narrow win over Offaly in Clara.

Goals from Fidelma Marrinan and Lizzy Roche inside the opening 20 minutes saw Clare open up a five point half-time lead 2-8 to 0-7.

Credit to Offaly they rallied in the second half. Clare had to rely on a couple of excellent saves from keeper Amy Lenihan to hold on for the win. 

Kildare 0-07 Louth 1-05

Louth moved to the top of Division 3 with a narrow one point win over Kildare in Hawkfield this afternoon.

It was Louth’s fourth win in four, while for Diane O’Hora’s Kildare it was their first defeat. Kate Flood’s goal was the difference between the sides at the break. 

A point from Róisín Forde in the 56th minute drew the sides level but Flood clinched a dramatic win for the Wee County one minute from the end of normal time.
