Review: Lidl NFL Div 2 Week 6

Armagh still await their opponents in the Division 2 final as the battle for a place in the decider goes down to the final day with Tipperary and Laois in contention. Down at the other end Roscommon picked up their first point of the campaign but will play in the relegation play-off; their opponents have yet to be decided.

Tipperary 2-15 Tyrone 1-07

An excellent first half display set Tipperary on their way to victory over Tyrone in Fethard this afternoon. The win means that the race for a place in the Division 2 final goes down to the final games next weekend.

Neasa Towey grabbed their first goal in the 20th minute. They added on further points to give themselves a 1-12 to 0-04 lead at half-time.

Tyrone scored a goal through Chloe McCaffrey in the 36th minute. Aisling Maloney got her side’s second goal in the 47th minute to keep 11 points between the sides. Points were exchanged but Tipp were never in trouble.

Laois 4-06 Cavan 2-08

A hat-trick of goals from Mo Nerney helped Laois to a four point win over Cavan and leave them still in the hunt for a place in the Division 2 final.

Laois found the back of the net twice in the early exchanges of the game. Cavan hit back with a goal of their own. There were just three points between the sides at the interval; the O’Moore County ahead 3-03 to 1-06.

A second goal from Cavan closed the gap to just one point in the second half but Laois hit back with 1-01 to put five between the sides. Cavan put it up to them but Laois were able to close out the game and give themselves a good chance of playing in the Division 2 final

Monaghan 0-13 Roscommon 0-13

Monaghan came from five points down to claim a point against Roscommon. A result that could prove crucial to them in avoiding the relegation play-off.

For Roscommon it was their first point of the campaign but they will face into a relegation play-off. In a tight first half where the sides were level on a number of occasions, Roscommon held a slender one point lead at the break.

A point from Aisling Feeley in the 52nd minute gave the Rossies a five point lead but that was to be their final score of the game. Monaghan came back and five points in a row earned them a draw.

Armagh 3-15 Westmeath 1-06

Armagh made it six wins from six in Division 2 as they defeated Westmeath by 15 points at the Athletic Grounds.

The Orchard County put in a strong display throughout and two goals in the opening half gave them an eleven point lead going in at half-time. Westmeath could only score three points in that half.

Armagh didn’t let up with the scoring in the second half. Aimee Mackin scored Armagh’s third goal in the 50th minute to extend their lead to 13 points. They added further points to their score to run out comprehensive winners.
