Review: Lidl NFL Div 2 Week 5

For the third game in a row Cavan left it late to claim a win. Aisling Gilsenan with the match winning point for the Breffni County. Armagh got the better of Laois in their top of the table clash at the Athletic Grounds.

Westmeath 1-12 Tyrone 2-13

Tyrone got a much needed win away to Westmeath this afternoon. The result moves the Ulster side above Westmeath in the table. Aoife Horisk and Caoimhe McCaffrey with the goals for the Red Hands. Aoife Connolly got Westmeath’s goal.

Westmeath made a fine start to the game but 1-2 in the space of 90 seconds brought Tyrone back into the game. Tyrone took a one point lead going in at the interval 1-8 to 1-7.

It was a tight opening to the second half but as the half went on Tyrone were able to assert their superiority. They got a second goal and were able to see out the game.

Monaghan 0-07 Tipperary 1-11

Tipperary bounced back from their defeat to Laois last weekend to defeat Monaghan this afternoon. 

The sides were level 0-5 apiece at the break. There was just one point between the side’s when Clara English scored the game’s only goal in the 50th minute. That gave Tipp a four point lead.

Monaghan were unable to get further scores in the final minutes while Tipp added a further three points to their tally with Aishling Moloney firing over three frees.

Cavan 2-09 Roscommon 2-08

Cavan have a habit of leaving it late to get winning scores and it was no different against Roscommon this afternoon. Aisling Gilsenan with the winning point one minute from normal time.

It was tough on Roscommon who edged ahead in the 54th minute through a pointed Laura Fleming free. Aisling Feeley had brought them back into the game with a goal in the 52nd minute.

Aisling Sheridan grabbed Cavan’s first goal in the ninth minute while Ally Cahill added a second from the penalty spot in the 45th minute. It’s now three wins in three for the Breffni County.

Armagh 0-10 Laois 0-05

Aimee Mackin scored four points as Armagh made it five wins from five in Division 2 in this top of the table clash with Laois. 

Mackin was sin binned in the 41st minute but it didn’t affect Armagh as they were able to finish out the game.

Armagh kicked over the opening four points before Laois registered their opening point in the 16th minute. There were just two in it at half-time. The lead was five points in the 54th minute. Laois were only able to score two points in the final minutes.
