Review: Lidl NFL Div 2 Week 4

Armagh made it four wins from four with a comprehensive win over Tyrone this afternoon while Erone Fitzpatrick’s point saw Laois claim victory over Tipperary.

Tipperary 3-05 Laois 1-12

Erone Fitzpatrick’s point earned Laois their third win of the campaign and inflicted a first defeat for Tipperary.

Angela McGuigan grabbed an early goal for Tipperary but that was canceled out by a goal from Katie Donoghue. Two goals from the boot of Emma Morrissey gave Tipp a three point lead at the interval.

Twice in the closing stages Laois drew level before Fitzpatrick kicked over the decisive score in stoppage time. 

Monaghan 2-06 Cavan 1-10

Cavan suffered a Monaghan comeback to hold on for a one point win in Donaghmoyne on Sunday afternoon. 

The Breffni County were ahead by seven points entering the final 10 minutes but a second goal from Monaghan made for a nervy few minutes but Cavan were able to hold on.

Despite a shaky start Cavan went in at the break four points in front. Their goal came from Mullahoran’s Aisling Sheridan.

Tyrone 1-07 Armagh 5-10

Tyrone fell to their third defeat in a row as Armagh made it four wins from four in Division 2 with another strong performance.

Aoife McCoy scored a goal in the fifth minute as the Orchard County took control of proceedings early on. Aimee Mackin scored from the penalty spot and then grabbed another goal to give her side a 3-6 to 1-7 lead at half-time.

Armagh didn’t let up with the scoring in the second half. Mackin scored her third goal and Armagh’s fourth in the 50th minute and McCoy sealed a fine win with a fifth goal in the 55th minute.

Roscommon 1-11 Westmeath 3-07

A goal from Aoife Connolly in the 53rd minute helped Westmeath to a two point win over neighbours Roscommon in Kiltoom this afternoon. 

It was a fourth defeat in a row for the Rossies who had been ahead by one point at the break – 1-4 to 1-3. They extended the lead to four but Westmeath came back.

A second goal from Rachel Dillon brought the Lake County back into the game with Connolly’s goal sealing the win for them.
