Roundup: Lidl NFL Div2

The final weekend of action in Division 2 of the Lidl Ladies NFL, will have two top of the table deciders as Kerry and Armagh both won their re fixed games this weekend.

Laois will be the opponents for the Kingdom, who lost the final last year, while in Ulster we also have a winner-takes-all final group game with Monaghan and Armagh looking for top spot.

Lidl NFL Division 2A:

Kerry 1-13 Clare 0-9; Doonbeg

The Kingdom joined Laois in the semi-finals, after a seven point win over Clare in Doonbeg, the result leaves Tipperary and Clare to battle it out in the final round of group games to avoid a relegation play-off.

Like their opening tie in Killarney, the Kingdom’s forwards were in great form in the opening half, they led 1-8 to no score at the break, Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh managing to hit 1-5 in the opening half, as Clare had little to reply with.

Clare opened the half’s scoring, but were unable to contain Kerry again as they hit three points in a row, it took until the midway mark for Clare to get their scores on the board, but chances were few as Kerry look to Laois to see who tops the group.

Lidl NFL Division 2B:

Armagh 2-13 Cavan 0-10; Athletic Grounds

Armagh are through to the Division 2 semi-finals, after a nine point winning margin over neighbours Cavan. Armagh look like promotion contenders, playing a great style of football as they have shown real determination.

The opening half began tight but in the end Armagh thanks to a Lauren McConville goal, had a 1-6 to 0-5 lead the the break, this was a critical game for Cavan as they are the only team in the pool without a point.

Aimee Mackin had their second goal seven minutes after the restart, as they were determined to pick up the points, Cavan replied with three points in a row, but Mackin would reply with four scores, as they continued to perform in the half, Cavan unable to turn the tide in the half.
