Dublin’s Magee steps away from AFLW Football

Melbourne have confirmed that Dublin midfielder Lauren Magee has stepped away from AFLW Football to focus on Gaelic Football.

Magee had joined the Melbourne Demons ahead of the 2021 season along with Dublin teammates Sinead Goldrick and Niamh McEvoy. She played 11 games over two seasons.

Melbourne list manager Todd Patterson said “it’s always challenging for international athletes, so we are fully supportive of Lauren’s decision to step away from AFLW.

“We thank Lauren for all that she sacrificed in trying to learn a new game a long way from home. We wish her all the best in her future pursuits, particularly with Dublin,” he continued.

Magee featured in Dublin’s Leinster Senior final win over Meath on Saturday as a second half substitute.

This comes as welcome news for Dubs fans ahead of their first match in the TG4 All Ireland series against Cavan on June 11th.
