Leitrim Gaels defeat Gortletteragh in Leitrim Village

Shaun Chandler and Enda Moreton combined for two match-winning goals for the hosts in Leitrim Village.

The Gaels avenged last season's championship defeat at the hands of Gortletteragh as they jumped back to the top of the table.

Gortletteragh will be watching tomorrow's draw with interest but are looking towards the trap door rather than a Quarter Final spot after this result.

Leitrim Gaels 3-9 – 0-8 Dromahair

Leitrim Gaels cruise past Dromahair in 10 point SFC win

Leitrim Gaels continue on their quest for a knock-out place in this years Connacht Gold Leitrim Senior Football Championship with a ten point victory over St. Patricks Dromahair in Leitrim Village last Saturday evening.

The Gaels are now in a strong position for at least a quarter-final spot while Dromahair are looking at a relegation battle to survive the drop.

The home team got off to the best possible start with a goal and two points in the early stages, the goal from Colin Guckian and the points from Stephen Goldrick and Donal Casey. It didn’t look good for Dromahair at this stage, but in fairness to them, they steadied the ship and actually outscored the Gaels by a point over the remainder of the half.

There were four points between the sides at the break, Stephen Goldrick and Jack Flynn (2) hitting over point for the winners. The visitors' Martin Feeney accounted for three of his sides points as Jamie Conlon got other point.

As in the first half, the home team got off to a great start in the early stages of the second, this time hitting a goal and three points without reply. Goldrick got all three scores from frees, with David Bruen hitting the net to give his team a ten point lead.

That lead was reduced to seven with a couple of Feeney points and another from Gary Fowley but that was as close as the losers got. Daniel O’Sullivan fired in the third goal and Goldrick hit over a point for the home team with the final score of the game falling to Martin Feeney, a pointed free to end a disappointing game.

The Gaels will be happy with the result, but their accuracy in front of goal will be a worry, kicking a dozen wides over the course of the game. St.Patricks will be very disappointed with their performance and will now have to look to getting their act together for what looks like a relegation battle.
