Cavan maintained their position at the top of the table going into the final round of league action next weekend.

Breathing down their necks are Tipperary, Sligo and Leitrim who are all looking to secure a top-two finish and Division Three football in 2023.

Cavan 1-15 London 2-11, McGovern Park, Ruislip

London’s slow start in this one cost them the game and ended their dreams of promotion.

Cavan who were looking to bounce back from their defeat to Tipperary. The visitors took control early in this and raced into an eight-point lead which included a well-taken goal from Paddy Lynch. 

Henry Walsh hit back with a screamer for the hosts. In the second-half London were a different side and looked like they wouldn’t give up their promotions hopes without a fight.

Liam Gavaghan was key for London as they tried to salvage something and when Chris Farley scored with his penalty it was too little too late for London who lost out by just a point.

Sligo 0-15 Waterford 1-11, Fraher Field, Dungarvan

A Sligo second-half comeback that saw them score seven points in a row help consign Waterford to yet another defeat.

Waterford led by six points at one stage but ended the game with 11 players after three black cards and a red were issued to the men from Waterford.

Tom O’Connell starred for Waterford but Sligo aided by Sean Carrabine kicked into another gear in the last 15 minutes and snatched the win from Waterford.

Leitirm 3-9 Wexford 1-11, Avantcard Páirc Sean Mac Diarmuda

Leitrim’s promotion hopes are still alive heading into the last round of Division Four matches.

Mark Rossiter, Tom Byrne, and goal scorer Martin O’Connor helped Wexford push Leitrim all the way but the three Leitrim goals provide crucial in the end. 

Darragh Rooney, Ryan O’Rourke both bagged for Leitrim but Conor Cullen came off the bench late and made an instant impact grabbing the third Leitrim goal to seal the win.

Tipperary 2-16 Carlow 0-11, FBD Semple Stadium

Promotion is in Tipperary’s hands after the recorded a comfortable 11-point win against Carlow.

Mark Rusell impressed for the hosts before Mikey O’Shea and Kevin Fahey scored for Tipperary and in all honesty when Tipp kicked into gear there was only going to be one winner.

Carlow only scored twice in the last 20 minutes of the match but Jamie Clarke scored four frees as they suffered their fifth defeat of the campaign.
