Preview: D4 Allianz Football League

There’s no hiding place for those who are targeting promotion this weekend. London, Sligo and Leitrim all need to win to keep their promotion hopes alive.

Cavan sit on top of the table and a win would see them promoted and a day out at Croke Park. Although London will be keen to put the Cavan champagne on ice.

Tipperary are on a high after their win against Cavan and will be looking to secure their spot in the top two.

London v Cavan, McGovern Park, Ruislip, Sunday, March 20th, 12pm

London need to bounce back with a win in this one if they’re to keep their dreams of promotion alive.

However, they’ve got the daunting task of overcoming table-toping Cavan who are looking to get their promotion charge back on track.

Gearóid McKiernan has been on fire for Cavan this year and the London defence will have to be on top of their game to keep him quiet. Patrick Lynch and Caoimhín O’Reilly will also be a threat with O’Reilly looking to build on his goal last weekend against Tipperary.

London ride the momentum generated by a noisy home crowd and that can spur them on to a win to take their promotion hopes to the final day of the league season.

Liam Gavaghan, Chris Farley and James Gallagher will be crucial for London if they are to keep their promotion bid alive.

Waterford v Sligo, Fraher Field, Sunday, March 20th, 2pm

Sligo will be looking to build on their thrashing of London last weekend. On the other hand, Waterford are still looking for the first win.

The table is harsh on Waterford in truth, one point from their first five games isn’t a true reflection on how they’ve played this season and have been unlucky to lose on a few occasions.

Darragh Corcoran is fourth in Division Four’s top-scorers chart and has scored 23 points in total.

Niall Murphy and Sean Carrabine are enjoying fine seasons to and with Sligo still in the hunt for promotion they should be able to help Sligo to victory.

Leitrim v Wexford, Avant Money Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada, Sunday, March 20th, 2:30pm

Keith Beirne is the division’s top-scorer and has been instrumental in getting Leitrim’s promotion bid back on track.

Wins against Waterford and Carlow have seen Leitirm drag themselves back into contention for promotion.

Since Wexford’s win against London, they’ve found a bit of form that they’d be hoping to carry onto The Leinster Championship.

John Tubritt, Kevin O’Grady and Mark Rossiter can do jobs for The Yellowbellies as they look to derail the Leitrim promotion push.

Tipperary v Carlow, FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles, Sunday, March 20th, 3:45pm

Tipperary moved second with their impressive win against Cavan last weekend and they will be looking to secure their top two place with a win against Carlow.

Conor Sweeney is second in the top-scorers table in Division Four with (4-23) in total so far. Sean O’Connor, Mikey O’Shea and Teddy Doyle will also be key.

Carlow have the worse points difference in the division with -31 and they may be on the end of another heavy scoreline this weekend should Tipperary kick into gear.

Colm Hulton and Darragh Foley have been impressive this year for Carlow but they will find it hard to get scorers against a strong Tipperary defence.
