GAA matches in Roscommon cancelled due to Referee Protest

Roscommon GAA have released a statement this afternoon, stating that all GAA games due to be played this weekend in the county have been postponed as referees have decided to proceed with a withdrawal of their services.

The decision has been made by the counties Referee’s Committee, as they feel that this action is necessary to strongly condemn any form of violence, aggression or abuse towards match officials in the GAA.

This decision follows the incident which occurred at an underage match in Ballyforan on Wednesday evening, where a referee was left needing medical attention after an alleged assault.

Roscommon GAA has strongly condemned any behaviour that would put a match official at risk, they have agreed with the decision, with all ties for this weekend are now refixed for the weekend of the 16-18th of September.
