Ray Dempsey has been announced as the new manager of the Limerick Senior Football Team, subject to ratification by both the Football and County Committees.
The Mayo native will take over for the next two years, the executive committee of the county board have confirmed. Knockmore’s loss is certainly a gain for the Treaty County, Dempsey is well experienced having overseen his club to the past two Mayo Senior Football Championships and has previously managed Mayo Minor and Under 21 Football Teams.
It was suggested Dempsey was in contention to take the vacant spot in his home county, with the pair of Oisín McConville and Declan O’Keeffe rumoured to be part of his backroom team. Kevin McStay was named Mayo manager instead, with McConville taking the reins in Wicklow.
No indication yet of who will form Dempsey’s staff at Limerick, after showcasing their quality under Billy Lee in recent years, missing out on Quarter Final football last year, Dempsey will now turn his attention to further success.
Speaking on his appointment Ray said “I am looking forward to the challenge and am hugely excited to be working with the group of players and building on their achievements of the last number of years”.
