A quick guide to Round 1 of the Leitrim Connacht Gold Senior Football Championship:

The opening round of the Leitrim Connacht Gold Senior Football Championship gets underway this weekend, with two fixtures tomorrow night and three more set for Saturday. Here is all you need to know ahead of the action.

Glencar Manorhamilton host Leitrim Gaels at 7:30pm on Friday evening to get the summer of football underway. The two teams faced off in Division one just a couple of weeks back with Glencar Manor running round five-point victors on the night.

The second Friday night fixture sees last years beaten finalists Mohill travel to St Marys Kiltoghert in a rematch of the League Final of last weekend which saw Mohill retain their Division 1 title. Both sides know how much of a tough test awaits as there was only a solitary point between the two at the weekend and we expect fireworks again tomorrow night.

Moving on to Saturday evening, the three remaining games from Round 1 are all penned for 7pm throw-in.

Fenagh St. Caillins host Aughawillan as they get their bid for a first senior title in 90 years underway, the Willies are a team who know a thing or two about what it means to go all the way in this championship in recent years. Both sides played out an entertaining draw in the championship last year in late August and we expect the battle to be this close again.

Melvin Gaels and Gortletteragh do battle in Kinlough with the teams looking to get a winning start to their championship campaign. Both only managed to pick up one win in last season’s competition, so getting off the mark on Saturday night would be major for either side. Melvin Gaels got their only win last year against Gortletteragh, so the South East Leitrim men will be buoyant to not let that happen this time.

Finally, it is a return to Senior Championship action for the 2021 Intermediate Champs, Dromahair, but the task is monumental as traveling to Glencar are none other than last year’s Senior County Champions Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins for the Clash of the Champions.

We here at FinalWhistle.ie will be keeping you up to date with all the action throughout the weekend so keep an eye on our site and socials as we kick off this fantastic championship in the next few days.
