Jess Gleeson & Julie Nelson – WNL Podcast Episode 8

This week on the podcast DLR Waves centre half Jess Gleeson and Northern Ireland international Julie Nelson join Stephanie Roche and Breifne Earley to chat about the big steps forward taken by both sides in the last fortnight.

Stephanie (1:27) takes a look back at the weekend’s action including her Peamount sides victory over rivals Shelbourne, DLR’s late winner over Galway, Boh’s 3-3 draw with Cork City and Wexford cutting loose against Treaty United.

New recruit in the UCD Bowl, Jess Gleeson (15:48) chats about her latest challenge in the league after moving across the city from Shelbourne during the close season and their unbeaten start to the season building on the draw in their opening fixture with Wexford Youths.

She chats about how she’s discovered a new lease of life at the club and is enjoying her football for the first time in a few seasons, the positive changes in her time in the league and a little look at what lies in store this weekend for the club in Turners Cross at the weekend.

After Northern Ireland’s fantastic achievement in qualifying for the next European Championships with their two leg victory over the Ukraine this month, we invited one of their experienced campaigners Julie Nelson (34:40) to fill us in on the mood in the camp, some of the work done to create the environment for their success and the plans for the next twelve months.

Julie chats about the double header victory with Ukraine, returning to the domestic league after playing her club football in England, Scotland and Iceland. She also discusses the impact of Kenny Shiels and his son Dean on the squad.

Finally Stephanie takes a look at the weekend’s fixture list (51:51) and outlines how she feels the action will develop over the weekend. Her picks for the weekend are her own former side Galway WFC facing a big clash with DLR Waves while table toppers Shels travel to Peamount on Saturday evening.
